Revolutionizing Calendars: Bao Xiying's "Different Everyday"

Interactive Calendar Design Inspired by Tongji University's Architecture

Renowned designer Bao Xiying introduces an innovative calendar design, "Different Everyday," that merges practicality with inspiration. This unique creation, inspired by the modern architecture of Tongji University, offers an interactive experience, allowing users to connect the dots and complete a picture by the end of each month. The design, which won the Golden A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award in 2018, is a testament to Bao Xiying's creative prowess and her ability to transform everyday items into interactive art.

The "Different Everyday" calendar is not just a tool to keep track of dates; it is a creative platform that engages users in a daily activity. Each day, users connect the dots in sequence, gradually revealing an image inspired by the architectural elements of Tongji University. By the end of the month, the incomplete drawings are finished, offering a sense of accomplishment and a unique piece of art.

The design's uniqueness lies in its interactive nature and the element of surprise it brings. Each user will connect the dots in their own way, using different types and colors of pens, resulting in a thousand unique calendars from a thousand people's usages. Bao Xiying's design encourages users to create a difference and a surprise every day, transforming the mundane task of tracking dates into an engaging and creative process.

The calendar, measuring 210mm×297mm, is made of paperboard and iron wire. The lines of the drawings stretch out of the picture, serving as hooks for hanging. This innovative design was realized using Adobe Illustration, demonstrating Bao Xiying's mastery of design technology.

The "Different Everyday" project started in March 2017 at Tongji University and was completed in April the same year. However, Bao Xiying believes that the connection of dots can span a lifetime, and the duration of this design can be forever. She plans to design different series and themes of the calendar using this pattern in the future.

Bao Xiying's innovative design approach was inspired by a children's book that taught drawing by connecting dots. This interactive element sparked the idea for the "Different Everyday" calendar, overcoming initial design challenges and resulting in a product that is not only functional but also inspiring and engaging. The design was awarded the prestigious Golden A' Design Award, reflecting its outstanding creativity and trendsetting characteristics.
